West Ham boss David Moyes is desperate to improve his midfield options in the summer transfer market, after failing with a host of approaches in January and eventually settling on signing Joao Mario on-loan from Inter Milan.

It’s not yet clear whether the Hammers will make the Portugal international’s stint at the London Stadium permanent but they continue to be in the hunt for options in the middle of the park, remaining keen on a player they eyed in January.

Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker has continued to adorn the back pages of the European press in his continued push for an exit from his current club and reports surfacing in recent days handed West Ham a blow, as it was reported Atletico Madrid hold a €20m pre-agreement for the Belgium ace.

However, Sport Witness now cites alternative reports that claim Atletico’s deal for Dendoncker has expired, adding that the 23-year-old wants to leave ‘now more than ever’ after becoming frustrated at a failed switch in January.

Capped four times by Belgium, Dendoncker is hoping to earn a spot in Roberto Martinez’s side at this summer’s World Cup.
