West Ham have plenty of work to do as they seek to retain their top-flight status and their success in this area will provide a vast impact upon the club’s summer transfer activity.

The Hammers sit just a single point above the relegation zone following three consecutive defeats and have just seven games to secure safety, whilst they have daunting clashes to play against Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

West Ham’s remainder of the season will provide an impact on the future of a number of their players and Inter Milan loanee Joao Mario has hinted that a permanent move away from the San Siro is on the cards, stating his time with the Italian side is ‘in the past’.

Quoted by The Evening Standard, the Portuguese international said:

“I’m in a new league and I’m trying to adapt quickly. I’m happy with my new adventure and I hope to finish the season well.”

“Inter are part of my past now. I could have played more, but football is about that too. Now I’m happy and that’s what matters most.”

West Ham reportedly failed with a £12m switch to make Mario’s move to the London Stadium permanent but could revise their approach later down the line.
