West Ham fans will be all too familiar with the name William Carvalho, after the Sporting Lisbon man was heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium last summer.
A switch for the Portuguese international never materialised and it led to a war of words between the two clubs, with West Ham adamant they never made an offer whilst Sporting offered to provide evidence suggesting otherwise.
The relationship between the two teams has since been repaired, allowing business to continue, and West Ham remain keen on Carvalho- as Sports Witness states that scouts from the Hammers were present once again this weekend.
Carvalho excelled in a derby clash with Porto, though Sporting lost 2-1, and it provides further evidence that he could be the combative central midfielder that the Hammers have been crying out for.
However, interest in Carvalho’s signature has been widespread in recent years, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all linked with moves, and the chase for his services could become fierce after this summer’s World Cup.
