West Ham face a stern fight in the coming months as they look to retain their Premier League status and bolster their side significantly, with the midfield being a key area of David Moyes’ focus.

The Hammers made attempts to bolster their ranks in this area during the January window but saw moves for the likes of Stoke’s Joe Allen and Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker collapse, leading Moyes to sign Joao Mario on-loan from Inter Milan.

It’s understood that the Portuguese international isn’t a target for a permanent switch, although the Hammers may also find that a deal for Belgian ace Dendoncker is also off the table due to rising interest.

Football.LondonĀ state that Dendoncker has emerged as a target for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are poised to lose German international Emre Can on a free transfer and see the 22-year-old as an ideal replacement.

Dendoncker, capped four times for Belgium and called up for this week’s international break, has spoken with keenness regarding a potential move to West Ham but the prospect of joining Liverpool would be difficult to turn down.
