West Ham’s transfer activity did not finish with the closure of the January transfer window, as David Moyes swiftly added the experience of Patrice Evra to his back-line.
The former Manchester United full-back was available on a free transfer after having his contract with Marseille terminated last year following a clash with a supporter- and it’s now reported that the Hammers won a fierce battle for his services.
According to France Football, West Ham beat Real Betis and three Turkish sides in the battle to land the experienced French international- with Antalyaspor, Bursapor and Galatasaray named as those also eyeing his services, along with clubs in China.
The 36-year-old is unlikely to be a long-term solution to West Ham’s defensive problems but his experience at the highest level can provide a huge boost, particularly to younger defenders like Declan Rice.
Evra is yet to make a Premier League appearance following his return to English football and remains on 273 appearances overall in the top-flight.
