West Ham continue to do business despite the closure of the transfer window and their quest to land players with significant Premier League experience continued this week with the acquisition of free-agent Patrice Evra.

The former Manchester United man has been available on a free transfer after being released from Marseille following an altercation with a fan, which led to his contract being cancelled, and it continued the struggles he has endured since leaving Old Trafford.

36-year-old Evra moved to Juventus in 2014 following successful years with United but, after failing to establish himself in Turin, he became a bit-part player in Marseille before his exit three months ago.

His arrival in East London bolsters Moyes’ options in the wide areas of defence but former West Ham forward Craig Bellamy is concerned that his struggles will continue in his return to the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sportsthe former Wales international said:

“He hasn’t been the same player in the past four or five years. His last year at Juventus was really poor, and he isn’t the same player he was when he worked [under Moyes] four years ago.”

“Age catches up with you, and he’s in that position. It’s a great move for him and his experience will be great for a club like West Ham, but I don’t believe they’re going to get much out of him playing-wise.”
