West Ham have been sucked right back into the relegation picture following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, which shapes up a crucial remainder of the season for the east London side.

The Hammers sit just three points above the bottom three heading into a crucial run of fixtures, where David Moyes’ side come up against fellow relegation strugglers Swansea, Southampton and Stoke during their next five matches.

Positive results from those clashes are necessary and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes the Hammers have enough in them to retain their Premier League status, who spoke about their chances after analysing Saturday’s defeat.

“I think they’ve got enough. I think with (Marko) Arnautovic in the kind of form he’s in at the moment, obviously they played with a 5-4-1 today so Arnautovic was left a little bit isolated – Joao Mario was trying to get up alongside him as best as he could – I think when they’re at home, against the smaller sides, I think they’ll have enough to pick up enough points.”

With 30 points on the board, West Ham are just ten short of the regular target mark for survival but it’s likely that a lesser tally will be enough to secure safety this season.
