West Ham are on the verge of a major signing in the January transfer window, with David Moyes set to bolster his squad in a key area.

The Independent reports that the Hammers have reached a preliminary agreement with Inter Milan for the services of 25-year-old Joao Mario, with a deal set to be finalised before the end of the week.

Moyes has been intent on improving his options in midfield throughout the January transfer window, though has struggled with his attempts to lure other targets to the London Stadium, but a deal for Portuguese international Joao Mario is a significant coup.

Signed in 2016 for a mammoth €40m fee, Carvalho has fallen down the pecking order at the San Siro this season and is now surplus to requirements- and a deal for West Ham could represent a bargain for the relegation threatened side.

A deal is unlikely to be completed before West Ham’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Wigan on Saturday but could be finalised before the midweek Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
