West Ham face a lot of scrutiny this month during the January transfer window but important deals may well be secured internally.

The Daily Mirror states West Ham are looking to reward young defender Declan Rice for his rise into the first-team with a fresh contract, which will see his current £10k-a-week wages doubled.

Rice made his debut at the back-end of last season and has become an important squad player for the first-team this season, with the 19-year-old particularly impressing since the appointment of David Moyes earlier this term.

Fans will have expected Rice’s contract to be renewed shortly, as his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season, and Moyes’ willingness to hand young players their chance in the first-team is a considerable improvement to what was witnessed during Slaven Bilic’s reign.

Rice is one of the brightest stars within the West Ham squad and is likely to become a first-team regular in the coming years with the likes of Jose Fonte and James Collins into the twilight years of their careers.
