West Ham face a busy few weeks ahead and an interesting piece of news has surfaced regarding a potential outgoing deal from the London Stadium.

A source has told West Ham World that experienced Portuguese defender Jose Fonte is a January target for Championship leaders Wolves, who are looking to bolster their defensive line in the mid-season window.

Led by Portuguese boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have been in stellar form this season, leading the way at the top of the table, and are seeking defensive reinforcements despite only conceding 20 goals so far in the league.

Fonte, who is currently injured, has struggled to secure regular football at West Ham following his move from Southampton 12 months ago and a deal worth £6m could be set to go ahead in the coming weeks. Per the reports, the source said:

“Wolves are looking to invest in a big name signing to score more goals but more importantly get two experienced defensive players to further improve our hard to beat mentality.”

“We [Wolves] are unbeaten in the league since October and we intend to finish the season this way”

An exit for Fonte could potentially open a door into the first-team for young defender Reece Oxford, who continues to be chased by German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
