West Ham continue to remain active on the transfer market as we edge into the final week of the January window but deals remain difficult to secure.

Hammers boss David Moyes remains intent on bolstering his midfield options, particularly following the recent injury to Manuel Lanzini, and one name widely linked with a move to the London Stadium is Inter Milan’s Joao Mario.

The Portuguese international is surplus to requirements at the San Siro and discussions regarding a loan to the Premier League have taken place. However, it has been indicated that the Italian side would prefer to permanently offload the 25-year-old.

That may prove to be problematic for the Hammers, who need to ensure their spending is balanced this month, but TuttoMercatoWeb suggests an alternative route to landing the signature of the experienced midfielder.

Per the reports, Inter are interested in West Ham’s Pedro Obiang and would be willing to accept a swap deal that would see Mario move to East London and Obiang come in the other direction, although it’s not clear whether the Hammers would be keen.

Given Moyes’ determination to strengthen his midfield, it’s unlikely he’d sanction a departure in this area.
