West Ham are desperate to improve their defensive ranks during the January transfer window, as the Hammers look to shore-up a back-line which is currently amongst the worst in the Premier League.

Only Stoke City have conceded more goals so far this season than West Ham’s tally of 40 and it’s clear that David Moyes needs to improve his options in that area of the field if the Hammers are to push themselves away from relegation danger.

A number of targets have been linked with a move to East London, including Reading’s Liam Moore- a player who has also been eyed by relegation rivals West Brom.

However, the Championship side are remaining firm on their stance regarding the 24-year-old, with the club’s chief executive stating he will only be sold for the right price. Quoted by Get ReadingRon Gourlay said:

“I said at the start of the season, we are not a selling club. Anybody who leaves the club will be because it’s right for the player and right for the club. The key thing is we are trying to build the club for the future.”

“It’s been quite a difficult time for the club in the past few years and while we got very close last year [to the Premier League] that increased a lot of expectations which up till now we have probably not fulfilled. But I have total belief in the manager and in the players.”

Perhaps crucially, the former Leicester City man is said to be keen on playing in the Premier League and it’s highly unlikely he’ll get that opportunity soon with the Royals, who currently sit 18th in the table- just four points above the relegation zone.
