West Ham are still awaiting their first victory under the tenure of David Moyes and the odds look stacked against the Scottish boss to end his wait in the weeks ahead.

The Hammers face testing clashes against Chelsea and Arsenal, both of whom will be favourites to pile more misery upon the struggling East London side- who remain in the Premier League’s bottom three.

As such, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson doesn’t predict a happy outcome for West Ham this weekend but he discussed the importance of the matches that follow. Writing in his weekly prediction, the former Arsenal man said:

“These aren’t the games that matter for West Ham. I know it is a London derby and they don’t like each other. I don’t expect them to get anything from this, but if you lose to Arsenal and Chelsea it isn’t too bad.”

“It is the games against Stoke, Newcastle and Bournemouth that matter most. Chelsea are a superior football team by far. West Ham’s battles are still to come. Chelsea have turned a corner, and have some good fixtures coming up, so I expect them to be putting pressure on Manchester City.”

Merson is tipping Chelsea to win 3-1 at the London Stadium this weekend, a result that could see the Hammers fall further behind in the race for safety.
