West Ham handed their survival hopes a huge boost on Saturday with a superb 1-0 victory over defending champions Chelsea, handing David Moyes his first victory as Hammers boss.

The East London side remain in the drop zone on goal difference but the win at the London Stadium will hand the club a crucial boost heading into the busiest period of the season, with another stern test against Arsenal this week.

West Ham may fancy their chances against a Gunners side who have seen troubles in recent weeks, with Arsenal losing to Manchester United and then only managing a draw against Southampton- the latter of which was a very poor performance.

Whilst the appointment of David Moyes was initially questioned by many, it’s clear the Scottish boss has had an impact on the club and record-signing Marko Arnautovic, who’s first goal for the Hammers at the weekend scored all three points, spoke about the Scottish boss’ impact.

Quoted by Sky Sportsthe Austrian ace said:

“Every day we have to work hard under this coach and there are no excuses. Everybody needs to do his main job and do two or three more jobs on the pitch. We are working hard as a team and I think you could see that in the game and if we continue to do that, we will be hard to beat.”

The win ended a run of eight games without a victory but there’s still work to do, with the Hammers facing Arsenal this weekend before clashing with Stoke City and Newcastle United before Christmas.
