West Ham United have enjoyed an upturn in form in recent weeks but remain in the Premier League’s relegation zone, though their deficit has been reduced to just a single point from safety.
David Moyes’ side are likely to go big in January to bolster their squad for the battle that lies ahead and the Hammers are keen to bolster their defensive ranks in the New Year but they face a fight on the transfer market.
The Daily Mail states that West Ham and Everton will go toe-to-toe in the January transfer window for the services of Lille defender Adama Soumaoro, who is valued by the French side at around £20m.
Lille have endured a dismal campaign across the English channel this season and the cash-strapped club may be forced to sell in the New Year, with the club finding themselves in financial disarray.
Whether Everton and West Ham will be willing to part with that fee for the 25-year-old defender remains to be seen.
