Summer signing Marko Arnautovic has revealed the reason behind his and West Ham’s recent upturn in fortunes, saying that their ‘hard work’ on and off the field is finally paying off.

The Austrian – who signed from Stoke City for a club record fee of £24 million earlier in the year – had a difficult start to life in East London, however has been back at his best in recent weeks.

A win against Chelsea and a draw last night against Arsenal have seen the Hammers begin to claw their way out of trouble, and Arnautovic has praised his team-mates work ethic for their improved form.

He said in an interview with the club : “I think as a team, we have worked very hard for the couple of weeks. We wanted to keep a clean sheet and it’s up to us.

“I have to say well done to the team because we have fought a lot and now we need some results to be rewarded with three points.

“I have enjoyed since the first day to be here with the team. I had a difficult start that everyone is behind me, especially my teammates and they’re getting me going.

“I’m fit and healthy and I want to help the team and the club to go upwards.”

West Ham travel to Arnautovic’s former club Stoke this weekend.
