La Liga giants Real Madrid have emerged as surprise challengers for the signature of West Ham United target Fyodor Smolov.

The Russia captain has attracted attention from all over Europe following his strong start to the season, with West Ham amongst a number of clubs interested in signing the FC Krasnodar forward.

Any interested clubs however may now be blown out of the water, after Real Madrid have reportedly stated their interest in the Russian hitman.

Madrid have had a relatively slow start to the new season, especially in front of goal, with a number of the club’s biggest stars – Ronaldo included – struggling to find the net regularly.

Such as been the crisis at the Bernabeu that Madrid will now reportedly turn to Smolov as an answer to their problems in up top.

The Sun report Madrid want to bring Smolov to Spain in January.

West Ham remain in the race for the striker however, and will hope a bid of around £15 million will be enough to tempt him to the London Stadium.
