West Ham United have surged up the Premier League standings following a superb rise in form, which has seen the Hammers move out of the relegation zone.

David Moyes has led to a valiant upturn, which has seen the East London side secure victories over Chelsea and Stoke City either side of a goalless draw with Arsenal. They did lose to the Gunners in midweek during the Carabao Cup quarter-final but will look to bounce back this weekend.

Whilst the defeat to Arsenal was a blow, it wasn’t top of the priority list for the Hammers. This weekend’s clash with Newcastle United, another side struggling near the foot of the Premier League, is extremely significant and can have a decisive say in the fight at the bottom.

With the form guide favouring the Hammers, BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted another three points for Moyes’ side this weekend. Writing in his weekly prediction, where he tipped the East London side for a 2-0 win, he said:

“West Ham are another team that have turned the corner. They have to be a bit careful here, because Newcastle are on such a bad run – the Hammers cannot afford to think they can just turn up.”

“But I can understand why they are confident, because David Moyes has got his mojo back. Watching him now, it reminds me of when he started out as a manager with Preston – that hunger and enthusiasm is back, his whole demeanour. He is on the warpath.”

Three points would certainly be the best Christmas present possible for West Ham fans and would hand them a huge boost for the remainder of the season.
