West Ham face a stern test ahead of them as they seek to bring an end to their poor run of form and secure a first victory under the guidance of David Moyes.

The Hammers lost to Manchester City on Sunday 2-1, having taken the lead, and now face a testing clash against Chelsea and Arsenal as we enter the busy festive period.

West Ham certainly need improvements if they’re to get anything out of those games, and climb out of the Premier League’s relegation zone, andĀ Sky SportsĀ pundit Danny Higginbotham believes controversial striker Andy Carroll is the man to save the Hammers.

“Getting him fit and keeping him fit is so important because at the start of the season it was (Javier) Hernandez up front on his own and they were going long to him and it was just coming back at them,”

“Now teams have seen West Ham can’t go long with Carroll out of the side and they have to play their way out and they just push right up and teams are nicking the ball off them in their own half and sticking it in the back of the net.”

“Carroll could literally be the difference between West Ham staying up or being relegated.”

Higginbotham’s claim is certainly debatable given Carroll has struggled this season, both alongside Javier Hernandez and when leading the line on his own.
