West Ham United have emerged as contenders for the signature of Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, reports Sports Mole.
Mawson, who signed for the Swans in the summer of 2016 from Barnsley, has been the stand-out player in an otherwise poor season for the club, who currently sit three points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Since joining Swansea, Mawson has made 45 top flight appearances and found the net five times, and such has been his form that there have been regular talks of an England call-up.
Manager David Moyes is said to have made the Englishman one of his top transfer targets after the New Year, with the recently appointed Scot keen to bolster both his attacking and defensive options going into the second half of the season.
Mawson has just 18 months remaining on his contract at the Liberty Stadium, and is expected to cost potential suitors in the region of £20 million.
The West Ham fans have had their verdict …

He'd be a good signing, young, English, room to develop in his game. These are the kind of signings we should be making at this stage. We need to establish ourselves as a top 8 side and then look to push on with bigger signings. Step by step.
