West Ham and West Bromwich Albion are chasing a January deal for Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international admitted in the summer that the Hammers were interested in signing him, but he decided to sign a new five year contract to stay in Spain.

It seems however that West Ham could revive a move for the 26 year old. Bakambu has once again been in excellent form for Villarreal this season with nine goals in 14 appearances for the Yellow Submarine.

Whether the La Liga side would be interested in selling the striker remains debatable.  Villarreal are currently sixth in the league, while the Hammers are in the Premier League relegation zone without a manager. Bakambu is also locked in to a long term contract, with his current side effectively holding all the cards.

Much will depend on whether the player has had a change of heart on his circumstances in Spain. The Congolese striker explained in an interview with Marca last summer that he doesn’t feel his work at Villarreal is done yet.
