West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to thank ‘classy’ Slaven Bilic following his departure from the London Stadium.
Bilic was sacked from his position at the club earlier today following what has been an awful start to the season for the Hammers.
Bilic’s men have won only 2 of their 11 top flight games so far and sit in the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The Hammers’ 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend proved to be the final nail in Slaven Bilic’s coffin after months of speculation over his future.
The Croatian joined West Ham in the summer of 2015, and enjoyed a terrific first season in East London, guiding his side to a brilliant seventh placed finish.
However his fortunes have since turned. Despite finishing 11th last year, the Hammers spent much of the season in a relegation dog fight, form that has continued into the new campaign and has ultimately cost Bilic his job.
While most fans feel the decision was right to part ways with Bilic, they are certainly thankful for his 2-and-a-half year tenure and have taken to social media to share their gratitude …
Slaven Bilic was in charge for the greatest game at Upton Park I've ever seen. It also happen to be our last. Huge part of our history pic.twitter.com/7CELeZFPR8

Slaven Bilic had the best points-per-game ratio (1.33) of any permanent manager in Premier League history for West Ham. pic.twitter.com/FUJ9i8aBiR

Feeling quite emotional. Bilic gave us the perfect farewell to the Boleyn Ground, but it was time for change. So sad how it’s ended. #COYI

I have wanted Bilic out for a long time now and I still stand by that. However, he is one of the nicest men in football and no on can EVER knock a man for trying his best in life and that`s what he did, it just wasn`t enough for WH. I wish him the very best of luck for the future

Farewell Slav. It's been quite a journey – probably summed up best by our front covers featuring Bilic. Thanks for the memories. pic.twitter.com/zQi82K1ArE
