West Ham manager David Moyes has admitted he was ‘shocked’ by some of the chants from the away end at Vicarage Road during the weekend’s clash with Watford.

Moyes’ first game in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat thanks to goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison, however it was not the result that shocked the newly appointed Scotsman, but instead the behaviour of the travelling fans.

Cries of ‘sack the board’ could be heard from the away end as frustration grew at seeing the Hammers slump to their seventh defeat of the Premier League season.

Moyes says he was taken back by such chants, and insists the club needs to be ‘together’ if they are to avoid the drop this season.

He said (via Football London): “I want everyone to be together. I am not aware of the problems before I came, I was a bit surprised when I heard it [the board criticism]. I want them behind us to give us a chance of winning.”

West Ham are next in action tomorrow evening against Leicester City, and a victory will lift them out of the relegation zone.
