West Ham United are set to launch a £15 million January bid for Russia captain Fyodor Smolov reports the Daily Mail.

The FC Krasnodar striker is reportedly keen on a move to England with only 18-months left on his current contract.

West Ham want to land the 27-year-old in an attempt to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season and help maintain their Premier League status after what has been a tough start to the new campaign.

David Moyes’ current crop of strikers have had a poor start to the season, managing only 7 goals between them, with Javier Hernandez scoring 4 times and Diafra Sakho 3 in all competitions. Andy Carroll is yet to find the net.

Smolov on the other hand, is a man in form. The Russian has hit an impressive Smolov has scored 11 goals in 13 games for club and country this season including two for Russia against Spain earlier this month in their 3-3 draw.

In total, he has managed 56 goals in three seasons at Krasnodar.

Should West Ham make a move for Smolov, they are expected to face competition from both Stoke City and Borussia Dortmund for the sought-after striker.
