La Provence journalist Alexandre Jacquin has slammed former West Ham star Dimitri Payet over his ‘weight’ following his poor form with current club Marseille.

Payet, who was (for the most part) and gleaming success story at the London Stadium for his year-and-a-half tenure with the Hammers, has struggled to recapture the form he showed in England after his return to France.

The Frenchman left East London ion controversial circumstances, refusing to train or eat with team-mates in a desperate attempt to force a move away.

It worked, however the news that he isn’t finding life too easy in France will come as music to the ears of the Claret and Blue army.

“For now, it’s a failure.” said Jacquin speaking with Foot-Sur7 of Payet’s switch back to his home country. “A complete failure is a bit harsh, but it’s still a failure in terms of stats, influence on the pitch, and the captain’s armband doesn’t exactly give him more weight in this team.”

He then added: “How many kilos does Payet have to lose? He’s a €30m transfer. There has to be someone at the club who can tell him he’s about to break the scales? He’s plump like a Turkish Delight. He’s a professional football player.”

Payet has scored just once in 13 appearances this season for Marseille.
