A former favourite of new West Ham manager David Moyes has jumped to defend the Scotsman after coming under heavy criticism following his appointment at the London Stadium.

Adnan Januzaj, who spent time under Moyes at both Manchester United and most recently Sunderland, believes the West ham fans are unfair to criticise the former Everton boss, and believes he can be a success in East London if given the trust he deserves.

“He’s a good manager,” said Januzaj speaking with Sky Sports. “Obviously it’s been difficult for him too. I’m happy for him because it’s a nice move and I hope everything goes well for him.

“He likes to play good football. It’s not easy sometimes, it depends on the squad. People have to trust him because he’s done it at Everton for a long time.”

Moyes had a disappointing few years in management. Following his release from Manchester United, he went on to manage Real Sociedad, however was sacked after exactly one year in the job, and his most recent excursion saw him relegated with Sunderland last season.

Januzaj has been linked with a return to his former boss, however after having only joined another one of Moyes’ former clubs Real Sociedad in the summer, he insists he is happy in Spain.

“I’m focused at Real, I’m really happy and I’m performing well. I’m coming back to my best physically, mentally and technically.”
