West Ham boss Slaven Bilic says that while he knows a number of the Claret and Blue army want youngster Toni Martinez to be given his chance in the first team, the Spaniard will have to wait.

Martinez has scored an astonishing 11 goals already this season the U23s, taking his total to a brilliant 24 goals in 23 games for Terry Westley’s side.

His impressive form has led for numerous calls from fans for the youngster, who was signed from Valencia in the summer of 2016, to be promoted to the first team, however manager Bilic says the good form of his other strikers are keeping him out of the team.

“Toni Martinez again proved he has a bright future by scoring twice for the Under-23s as they reached the Checkatrade Trophy knockout stage.” said Bilic in the Evening Standard.

“Some of our fans would like him in our squad and I understand that. I also want young players to succeed.

“But we have Andre Ayew in good form, Chicharito scored last week, Andy Carroll is again a valuable player for us and Diafra Sakho is fit again.”

Ayew is West Ham’s current top scorer with five goals in all competitions, while Chicharito and Diafra Sakho trail him with 4 and 3 goals respectively.

Andy is yet to find the net.
