West Ham goalscoring hero Andre Ayew has explained how his goal early in the second half against Tottenham changed the mindset of the players in last night’s dramatic comeback win at Wembley.

The Hammers looked down and out after heading into the break 2-0 down, but two goals from Ayew in the second half, and one from defender Angelo Ogbonna secured the turnaround that saw West Ham progress to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.

Speaking after the match about his first goal in the 55th minute, Ayew said it was talked about by manager Slaven Bilic during his half time team talk:

“We stayed confident. We were down but the coach had the words. We knew if we scored early in the second half we’d have a chance. I want to congratulate the whole team, it’s a massive win.”

Confidence seemed to surge back into the Hammers players after the goal, and it will be interesting to see how many of the rested first team players will be chosen to start against Crystal Palace on Saturday in what will be a crucial game to determine the future of manager Slaven Bilic.
