West Ham forward Andre Ayew has been a much maligned figure since his £20.5m move from Swansea last season.
His first campaign with the club was for many a disappointing one with injuries and poor form curtailing his appearances to just 26 in all competitions, with just six goals to his name.
The Ghanaian international’s brace against Spurs last night means he is already two thirds of the way to matching his total goal tally for last season, and he was integral to the fightback yesterdau.
Since joining the Hammers, manager Slaven Bilic has employed Ayew on the right wing, on the left wing, in attacking midfield and as a striker but his performance up front alongside Andy Carroll last night suggests his instinct for scoring goals could best be served as part of a front two.
It’s must be said that Ayew has not always been a favourite among West Ham fans but they were happy to praise him for his display last night:
Fair play to Ayew, not his greatest fan but put in a real shift tonight & has a habit of being in the right place at right time.
