West Ham captain Mark Noble has hailed his side’s character and belief following their historic comeback at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur last night.

The Hammers looked down and out and 2-0 down thanks to first half goals from Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli.

However, a fine second half turn-around flipped the tie, with West Ham emerging 3-2 victors in a historic night in the capital.

An Andre Ayew brace, scored within five minutes of each other early in second half, levelled the scores, before Angelo Ogbonna scored an unlikely winner on the 70 minute mark to take Slaven Bilic’s side through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in remarkable fashion.

Noble, who played the entire 90 minutes, says his side showed their true colours on a memorable night at Wembley.

“I said to the boys you have always got to believe,” he said after the victory speaking on whufc.com. “You can’t give up. We are Premier League footballers; you can’t just give up.

“In all honesty, no [I don’t believe it!] But do I believe in the team? Yes! Do I believe in the players? Yes, but 2-0 down at Wembley to a fantastic Spurs team, not only for us, but for any team, is a massive mountain to climb.

“Obviously Spurs scored two goals, they can do that, but in the second half, we showed a lot of character.

“I thought we deserved it. They deserved it in the first half and scored two, we did in the second half but scored three – that’s why we won the game.

“I don’t think you get that second half performance if you aren’t playing for your manager. Slaven is a proud man – it kills him when we lose, you see it in his interviews.

West Ham next travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
