Newcastle will target West Ham striker Andy Carroll if their takeover by PCP Partners goes ahead, according to the Daily Star.

The Newcastle Chronicle has confirmed that the club are looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window, and that manager Rafa Benitez has compiled two lists of transfer targets with one set aside in case a takeover happens soon.

The Daily Star say that Carroll’s name was mentioned in a meeting between Magpies officials and Amanda Staveley, who runs the investment firm PCP partners, but it does seem unlikely that such details would be discussed before a takeover has taken place.

Carroll started his career at Newcastle, making his debut for the Magpies in 2006, before he made a £35m to Liverpool in 2011. The 28 year old was left out of the starting line up against Crystal Palace at the weekend, after returning from a suspension for his red card during the 1-1 draw against Burnley.
