Hammers defender Aaron Cresswell says he is keen to impress England boss Gareth Southgate after being called up to the Three Lions squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

England take on Slovenia at Wembley before travelling to Lithuania as they attempt to book their ticket to Russia next summer.

Cresswell, who is line to make his third appearance for his country, hopes not only can his country secure their place at next summer’s tournament, but that he too can lament his spot in Southgate’s squad.

“I’m going away again and we’ve got a job to do and hopefully we can qualify,” said Cresswell speaking with whufc.com. “We’ve only got to get one point more and we’ll have got the job done.”

Cresswell made his Three Lions debut last year in a friendly versus Spain, and was given his second run out this year, again in a friendly match however this time against France.

While the defender is yet to make a competitive appearance for his country, he still hopes to become Southgate’s number one choice at left back come next summer.

“It would be nice to make my competitive debut in one of the two remaining qualifiers and that’s the plan, but the main aim is to qualify and whoever plays, I’m sure we can do that.

“We’ve got two winnable games and, as I say, hopefully we can do that and then look forward to the World Cup next year.”
