West Ham have struggled for form this season and sit just one point above the relegation zone after ten matches, having thrown away a two-goal lead against Crystal Palace at the weekend to draw 2-2 at Selhurst Park.

The result followed a spectacular comeback against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup last week, where the Hammers trailed 2-0 at half-time at Wembley before storming back after the break to win 3-2 and set-up a quarter-final clash with Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic heavily rotated his side for the game last week and featured captain Mark Noble in midfield, a man that many believe to be past his best, but former Hammer Matthew Etherington was impressed with the performance of the veteran.

Taking to social media, Etherington earned West Ham fans to ‘cherish’ their skipper and clearly believes he remains as an important member of the side, who can provide the leadership moving forward that the Hammers need to drag them out of the mud.

His leadership will certainly be needed over the course of the coming weeks as West Ham face a stern test against Liverpool before the upcoming international break, then clashing with high-fliers Watford before crucial tests against Leicester City and Everton.
