West Ham defender James Collins is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after limping off during the weekend’s clash with West Brom.

The Hammers were held to a drab 0-0 draw with Tony Pulis’ side at the Hawthorns, and Collins went off just before the hour mark after an awkward landing.

The Welshman had recently returned to Slaven Bilic’s starting XI after a string of impressive performances, however the Croatian now admits the defender may be now absent for a number of months following the injury.

“I don’t know,” Bilic said in his post-match press conference at the Hawthorns when asked about Collins’ injury.

“It was a strange injury, he knocked it in the first half and he continued to play. Once or twice after that he carried on and after the third one he said to come off, it shows how brave he is.

“Now we will of course scan it but is is an injury, not just a little on but on the other hand, we hope it isn’t too serious.”
