Cheikhou Kouyate’s Senegal remain on target to miss out the 2018 World Cup in Russia after their scoreless score against Burkina Faso in Group D.

The West Ham midfielder was introduced as a late substitute in the draw, with a point for each side leaving Burkina Faso top of the group and in line to make the cut for next summer’s competition, and Senegal in second place trailing by one point and level on point with South Africa.

The hosts had Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly sent off in the 84th minute at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, leaving Kouyate and co’ to hang on for the last few minutes in what was a tense affair in Dakar.

Kouyate was one of a number of past and present Premier League players starring for the Lions, with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye also playing a part in the 0-0 draw.
