West Ham duo Marko Arnautovic and James Collins yesterday faced off in Cardiff as Austria and Wales went head-to-head in their Group D World Cup qualifier.

In what was a tense affair, Liverpool youngster Connor Woodburn’s 74th minute strike was enough to secure all three points for the home side and steer Chris Coleman’s side three points clear of Austria in the table.

Despite the victory however, Wales currently remain in third place in the Group D standings, while Austria sit in fourth, meaning neither country will qualify for next summer’s tournament in Russia if things remain the way they are.

Serbia lead the group and remain unbeaten on 15 points, while the Republic of Ireland occupy second position with 11 points – 2 ahead of Wales – meaning they could qualify for the competition as one of the best runners up in their respective group.

Collins was an unused substitute in the game, while Arnautovic played the full 90 minutes for his country. The Austrian is currently suspended from domestic action following his red card against Southampton two weekends ago.
