West Ham striker Javier Hernandez has revealed he doesn’t mind where he plays as long as he is playing, and would be even open to a switch to left-back as he responded to questions as to his Hammers role.

Manager Slaven Bilic has been using Hernandez – predominantly an out-and-out striker – on the wing in in behind to accommodate the return of Andy Carroll, leading many the question the Croatian’s judgement, especially considering the Mexican’s record in front of goal.

However, speaking on his role with his new club, Hernandez revealed he just loves to play football, and doesn’t mind where it is he may play.

“My life doesn’t revolve around goals,” the No17 said speaking on whufc.com. “I like to play football, I like to be on that pitch, if I play left winger, left midfielder, even left back, centre forward, wherever.

“I like to grow and I like to challenge myself, I like to always push myself to keep on growing, to adapt to any circumstances. I just love to play football.”

Hernandez has found the net twice for the Hammers since his £16 million switch from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, and while he doesn’t mind not getting on the scoresheet, he still possesses the same desire to find the net when he can.

“Of course, who wouldn’t like to score a goal? Even the ‘keepers would like it; the goal is the culmination of everything.

“But I love playing football, improving in many technical, tactical, mental aspects, whatever. So if I get to score a goal I would be very happy, but not so much if it’s not useful.

“It’s all about the group, the player on your left depends on you and you depend on the one on your right, it’s a chain, this is a team sport and you have to be at your best to be able to support your team.”
