West Ham are still tracking Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho despite failing to complete a move for the Portugal international this summer, reports TalkSPORT.

The Hammers were heavily linked with the Euro 2016 winner over the summer, however were unable to secure a deal for the midfielder amidst trouble between Sporting and the Hammers.

Sporting believed that West Ham had made nor formal approach for the player despite it being widely reported the Portuguese club had turned down numerous offers for the 25-year-old, leading to a war of words between the two clubs chairmen.

Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho labelled West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan the ‘dildo brothers’ due to their ties with the sex industry, with the pair later threatening to sue Carvalho for his comments.

Fall-out aside however, it is believed the Hammers still want their man, with scouts from the East London club believed the be present during Sporting’s draw against Moreirense this weekend.

Carvalho is valued at £40 million by the Portuguese giants, with his contract running out at Estádio José Alvalade in July of 2020.
