West Ham failed in a deadline day attempt to bring former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle to the London Stadium.

The Germany international – who has been capped 57 times for his country – left Chelsea in 2015 after two seasons with the London club, spending one year with Wolfsburg before joining Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Schurrle however has found himself down the pecking order at the Bundesliga outfit, with much of his playing time coming from the bench, something West Ham were reportedly ready to capitalise on.

The Sun reports that the Hammers proposed a loan deal for the German with an obligation to buy next summer for £26 million, however amidst confusion over the failed deal for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, Schurrle’s proposed move to the London Stadium never materialised.

Schurrle, who has been out injured following suffering a thigh problem earlier this month in a German cup tie, is expected to return to action for Peter Bosz’s side later this week.
