Former West Ham United star Carlos Tevez’s miserable start to life in the Chinese Super League has gone from bad to worse after the striker was dropped for being ‘overweight’ and ‘unfit’, reports Sky Sports.

Tevez scored only twice in 12 appearances for Shanghai Shenua last season following his move from boyhood club Boca Juniors, however the world’s highest paid player will now be watching from the sidelines until he is able to sort out his fitness.

“I won’t pick him right now. He’s not ready physically. He’s not fit to play.” said Shanghai boss Wu Jingui.

“He is overweight, along with [Fredy] Guarin. I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well.”

Rumours of a quick return to Argentina will now be fuelled by the news that Tevez is no longer starting for the CPL side. The veteran striker has had a highly successful yet erratic career that has seen him player for a number of Europe’s top clubs – however trouble has a tendency to follow the Argentine wherever he goes.

“If you are unable do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you. I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.”
