It would have been nice to see Oxford stay at West Ham and been given his chance, but unfortunately, that would not have been possible.
Regardless of his ability, under Bilic and in a squad that has now added a plethora of proven Premier League quality – something the owners and manager deemed essential ahead of the new campaign – the 18-year-old’s opportunities would have been beyond limited, and sitting warming the bench would have done him no good at all. Moving to Germany where he is likely to get first team football regularly is exactly the right decision.
