Evening Standard reporter John Dillon has given a damning analysis of West Ham following the weekend’s defeat at Old Trafford, labelling Slaven Bilic’s side as ‘weak-minded’ and ‘laughable’.

The Hammers succumbed to a dismal 4-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United last Sunday, and find themselves bottom of the Premier League – albeit only one game into the season.

Following the defeat, Dillon spoke of how the Hammers must improve if they are to pick up a result against Southampton this weekend, and used a few choice words in his description of Slaven Bilic’s side.

“The West Ham Way? Remember that? It’s changed so much. But one laughable aspect of the way the Hammers do things remains steadfastly in place.” opened Dillon in the Evening Standard.

“That’s their weak-minded capability to roll over and capitulate against the big teams (and some smaller ones) in a feeble style un-matched with such regularity anywhere else in the Premier League.”

Dillon also went on to compare the Hammers to this weekend’s opponents, who he believes have overtaken the East London side in stature.

“It makes this a good time to set aside all those fallacies about the Hammers’ unquenchable penchant for elegant, lovely football and about their much-marketed Academy, too. It all happened decades ago.” he insisted.

“Those ideas are actually practised with more conviction these days by Saturday’s opponents, who have a well-defined philosophy which produces young players and attempts to create a technical style of play whoever is manager.

“Funnily enough, they call it The Southampton Way. And it put them in eighth place in the final table last season.”
