West Ham United have confirmed that midfielder Robert Snodgrass has joined Championship side Aston Villa on a season-long deal.

The Scot had been told he was surplus to requirements at the London Stadium and was free to leave the club this summer, and subsequently will spend the year away at Villa Park under his former manager Steve Bruce.

Bruce – who signed Snodgrass for Hull City back in 2014 – had been working to complete a deal for his former star over the past week and has now finally landed his man.

Snodgrass joined West Ham only this January in a £10 million from Hull City, but failed to make an impact in East London in his half a season with the club. The 29-year-old failed to find the net in any of his 15 appearances last season, and having failed to impress during pre-season, was subsequently left out of Slaven Bilic’s squad for the club’s two opening Premier League fixtures.

The club released a short statement, saying: ‘West Ham would like to wish Robert all the best for his loan spell.’
