Summer signing Sead Haksabanovic said he was pleased with his first appearance for his new club and admitted it ‘felt good’ to pull on a Claret and Blue shirt for the first time.

The Montenegro international – who joined the club earlier this month from Swedish side Halmstads BK – made his bow for the Hammers last night for Terry Westley’s academy side in an exciting 3-2 victory over Swindon Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Haksabanovic was a key player as the young Hammers secured their first ever victory in the competition, and the 18-year-old says he was thrilled to get his West Ham career off to a winning start.

“It felt good to be on the pitch in a West Ham shirt for the first time. The players were taking care of me well, and of course it felt good to win the first game.” said the star speaking on whufc.com.

“It was good to play against a senior team for my first game as well, because I have been playing against senior teams in Sweden. It’s a good experience to get in your first game. It was a tough match but we attacked well and I think we deserved to win the match.”

The youngster went close with his first effort of the game, almost opening his Hammers account only 11 minutes into his career with his new club, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Goals from Martin Samuelson and Moses Makasi saw the tie held at 2-2 till late on before Dan Kemp hit an 86th minute winner to see the Hammers through against the League Two side.

“We took the lead three times and it was so important to keep attacking after the other team equalised. We were talking about winning the game before and we really felt that we could do it.

“The shot I had [early on] was very close! I would have loved to score so early on, but I will score in the next match!”
