West Ham United have successfully navigated their way past League Two Cheltenham Town to progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup, much to the delight of the West Ham fans who saw their side earn their first victory of the new season.
Both Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew were on the mark for the Hammers, with both registering their first goals of the new season to ensure a safe passage through to the next round of the domestic competition.
Sakho opened the scoring just before half time with a neat turn and finish from the edge of the box, before the Senegal star turned provider only a few moments later, sliding in Ayew who slotted home to double the visitors advantage.
While the Robins threatened in the second half through top scorer Mo Eisa, Slaven Bilic’s side held on for victory. The Hammers will now wait for Thursday morning’s draw to see who they will play in the third round.
A good result all round, and plenty of positives to take – a first victory; James Collins’ 200th West Ham appearance; and a scoring return for Diafra Sakho – Hammers fans have taken to Twitter to share their delight …

Good win for West Ham. Could have had more goals but 2-0 is good enough to move forward in the Caribou Cup (or whatever its called now)…
