West Ham fans are over the moon as last season’s Hammer of the Year tonight returned to action with the U23s.

The former Sheffield Wednesday star started for Terry Westley’s side, playing just over an hour in the goalless draw against Everton, and was praised for his performance by assistant coach Liam Manning.

“Michail Antonio was first class in terms of his attitude and the way he approached it,” Manning said speaking on whufc.com.

“He’s trained with us this week and it was great for the young lads to experience playing with someone at the level he’s at. His professionalism and attitude is certainly something for the young lads to look up to.”

Antonio had been out since last April after suffering an injury against Swansea, but after a summer of hard work and rehabilitation, the England international is now close to a return to Slaven Bilic’s squad, and is expected to be back before the international break at the end of the month.

Hammers fans are delighted to see one the club’s star players finally back in action, and have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts …
