West Ham will host Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup after being drawn against Phil Parkinson’s side in the early hours of the morning following their victory of Cheltenham Town.

The Hammers beat the Robins 2-0 at Whaddon Road last night to progress to the third round of the EFL Cup for the third consecutive year, and while the draw may seem a friendly one, the League One strugglers could prove to be a difficult task to conquer – that is if the club’s head-to-head record is anything to go by.

The last time the Hammers came out on top against Wanderers was over a decade ago when they emerged 3-1 victors in a Premier League encounter. Since that day, the two sides have met 9 times, West Ham have failed to beat the side from the Macron Stadium, with Bolton coming out victorious in each of the last 8 encounters.

The two sides have not met since 2011 however, after Wanderers were relegated to the Championship and subsequently League One only a few seasons later.

Will history repeat itself, or will Slaven Bilic’s Premier League quality prove to be too much for Phil Parkinson’s side?
