West Ham are confident that they will secure the £34 million signing of Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho before this weekend’s clash with Newcastle United, reports The Sun.

The Hammers travel to St James’ Park on Saturday for their third consecutive away game, and are hoping to have Carvalho as part of their squad as they look for their first points of the Premier League season.

Slaven Bilic’s side have had a tough start to the new campaign, first losing 4-0 to Manchester United in their opening fixture before being narrowly defeated by Southampton 3-2 on Saturday.

Carvalho has been long rumoured to be on his way to the London Stadium as Bilic looks to add stability to his midfield, however with the two clubs thus far unable to agree on a fee for the Portugal international, a deal has not yet materialised.

The Portuguese club have continually upped their valuation of Carvalho, however West Ham are now confident an offer of £34 million will be enough to secure his services.
