Sam Byram has got his sights set on a top-half finish with West Ham next year depsite a difficult pre-season period.

The Hammers won just one of their six pre-season fixtures and will kick-off the new season against Manchester United at Old Trafford this coming Sunday, but Byram believes there are plenty of reasons to be positive, including the clubs transfer business this summer.

The club have made four signings in the form of Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic and most recently former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez – players which Byram believes can help Slaven Bilic’s side have a good coming season.

“I think the signings we’ve made show the ambition of the Club,” said Byram speaking on whufc.com. “We’ve got a great squad and we’ll definitely be looking to finish in the top half of the table and see how well we can do.”

Byram joined the Hammers in January 2006 from Leeds United, and is now looking ahead to his third season in Claret and Blue, but remains positive that he can make an impact despite the Pablo Zabaleta likely to start the season in his preferred position of right back.

“Every player is going to have competition in a top team and West ham are a top club, so we’ve got competition all over the pitch. For me, I’ve just got to keep working hard and try to impress the manager and get in the team.”
