The news that West Ham’s proposed move for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho is likely to fall through will have come as a distressing sound to the ears of Hammers fans everywhere.
A Euro 2016 winner with Portugal, the highly rated midfielder was expected to complete a medical with the Hammers this week after agreeing personal terms with the club, however with the two clubs unable to agree on a fee for the 25-year-old, the move is close to falling through.
West Ham initially bid £27.1 million for the midfielder, however Sporting are demanding £40 million, a fee the East London club are reluctant to match.
Fear not, however, West Ham fans. While Carvalho would have no doubt been an excellent signing, there still remains plenty of other options out of their across the continent, some perhaps, even better.
